Xiong'an: Drawing a New City on a Blank Sheet

Building a city of the future from zero — Xiong'an is China's new experiment.

Xiong'an is not building a city; it is shaping a new kind of life.

In 2017, the Xiong'an New Area was established. On fields beside Baiyangdian Lake, a new city began to grow, planned by world-class teams with the aim of a thousand-year city, a city of the future.

Xiong'an's streets have no manhole covers; pipes run in underground utility tunnels. Buses are driverless; neighbourhoods include elder care and childcare facilities. A digital twin city is being built alongside — whatever exists above ground exists in the digital world.

From Beijing, the high-speed rail reaches Xiong'an in an hour. More and more people are moving from Beijing to work and live here, saying it is exciting to watch a city grow from blueprint to reality. Xiong'an is still growing; its story has just begun.
